Four Sentence Stories

There is a fun Theatresports game we sometimes play called Four Sentence Stories.  You tell a story in four sentences.

Sentence 1:  Gives the character, the place and what the character is doing.
Sentence 2:  Is a huge problem.
Sentence 3: Is a solution to the problem (where you are with what you've got)
Sentence 4: Makes it the best thing that ever happened and creates a super-happy ending.

For my writing I am learning about how to write a story with a good storyline so I have been practicing writing 4-sentence stories.  My class is studying fairytales this term so I wrote them like a fairytale.

Here is my first one:

1: The long-haired evil wizard was making a smelly potion in a giant, damp castle.

2: Suddenly his castle collapsed splashing his potion all over him and he turned to a frog.

3: But then he remembered if you act like a human it will break the spell so he walked instead of hopped and he turned back into a human.
4: But now he could turn into a frog whenever he wanted.

Here is my next one:

1:  The little strong elf was finding berries in the forest.

2: Suddenly a sharp-spined, evil dragon glided down through the clouds and blew a burst of freezing, colourful ice all over the elf city and froze all the houses and froze the elf's favourite necklace.

3:  So the little elf lit a giant fire by holding his necklace above a pile of twigs and melted all the ice.

4: That was the best thing ever because it's never cold in winter because all the elves know how to make a fire.

  1. Hi Isaac. I think I might use your idea of the four sentence story next time I teach students at UHPS. What a great idea to help people understand the parts of the story and it helps to make it interesting. I love your imagination too.
